24 hours blood pressure measurement

Indication

Indication

When there is a doubt that your health complaints may be caused by blood pressure, either high or low, your GP may advise 24-hours blood pressure measurement. This measurement can give the right picture of your blood pressure during the day or can provide the insight on the efficiency of certain medication. It also can exclude the so called 'white coats syndrome' where blood pressure levels are higher during the visit to GP’s practice while normal in regular environment. This test is done only on GP’s request.

Preparations

Preparations

It is advisable to wear easy upper garments as you need to remove them in order to place the instrument.

The procedure

The procedure

The instrument looks very much like regular blood pressure monitor. The assistant will place the inflatable cuff on your arm connected to the instrument which you can place on your belt or carry it on your shoulder. It stays with you for the period of 24 hours.

During the day, between 8AM and 11PM the measurement is taken every 30 minutes. During the night, between 11PM and 8AM, it happens every hour. Your arm should be as much relaxed during the measurement.

You will also be asked to keep the track of your activities and emotions and to pursue your normal daily routine which includes your work or sport activities. As the instrument may not get wet, the only limitation to your daily routine is that you may not use the shower.
Results
