Contraceptive Implant
About
In General Medical Practice De Makroon you can obtain contraceptive implant, a birth control device made of a single rod 4cm long and 2cm wide, containing progestogen. As one of the most effective birth control form, when placed under the skin, it provides protection for up to three years (two years for women with increased body weight) and works similar to intrauterine device (IUD). Progestogen inhibits production of egg cells and creates inhospitable environment for sperm and egg cells nesting. Fertility returns quickly after its removal.
Target group
Generally, contraceptive implant is suitable for all women who like to prevent pregnancy; still it is not advisable in cases of oversensitivity to device’s ingredients, thrombosis, pulmonary embolism, vaginal bleeding that cannot be explained, jaundice, liver disorders or breast cancer.
Preparations
The procedure
After applying local anesthetics, GP places the rod under the skin of the upper arm by a sort of injection, making it invisible. The procedure last approximately 15 minutes. After three years (two for women with increased body weight), you need to return for implant’s removal.
Costs for both treatments are excluded from your obligatory deductible.
